How to add to the community bulletin board Welcome to the community bulletin board, which is a page used for announcements from WikiProjects and other groups. Help WikiProject Louisville commemorate and celebrate the 150th Kentucky Derby by joining our article development and backlog drive taking place during the period of the Kentucky Derby Festival, April 20 – May 5, 2024. The purpose of this drive is to improve a corner of the Wikipedia related to and timed for this special rare anniversary. Monthly or continuous events Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month. Guild of Copy Editors' editing blitz. The April 2024 editing blitz is a one-week-long effort by the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce its backlog. The themes are: all articles on the GOCE Requests page, and articles on the January 2023 and February 2023 backlog. It will begin on 14 April, 00:00 (UTC), and end on 20 April, 23:59 (UTC). Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red 2023 Events: WP:WIR/EVENTS - updated monthly The 100,000 Challenge. The quest to bring about 100,000 article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions and countries. This is a loose challenge, a list will not be maintained here, but the components will function independently on each of the subpages. Will be updated every week or two. The 50,000 Destubbing Challenge is a long term challenge to destub 50,000 articles on English Wikipedia for every country and topic. It may take decades to accomplish, it may take ten years, it all depends on how many people actively contribute. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available. Problems Between 2 April and 8 April, on wikis using Flagged Revisions, the "Reverted" tag was not applied to undone edits. In addition, page moves, protections and imports were not autoreviewed. This problem is now fixed. [1][2] Changes later this week The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 April. It will be on all wikis from 18 April (calendar). [3][4] Default category sort keys will now affect categories added by templates placed in footnotes. Previously footnotes used the page title as the default sort key even if a different default sort key was specified (category-specific sort keys already worked). [5] A new variable page_last_edit_age will be added to abuse filters. It tells how many seconds ago the last edit to a page was made. Help out Wikipedia is, by number of articles, the largest encyclopedia ever to exist. However, many articles are stubs, or otherwise need attention. If you like, go ahead, be bold, and jump right in. If you aren't ready to fly solo, you can participate in a Collaboration.

Things to do Respond to a request for comment, Wikiquette alert or provide a third opinion. Adopt a basic topic list, to help develop and maintain a table of contents to a major subject on Wikipedia. Give a requested editor review. Can you draw or take pictures? Make a requested image. Peer review or give feedback on some articles. Make recommendations on articles listed at Good article review. Respond to the Reward board or Bounty board. Are you good at photo editing? Then try cleaning up some of these images, or helping out at the Graphics Lab. Can you use GIS tools? Help make requested maps. Can you communicate in another language? There are articles that need translation into English. You can also proofread a translation. Let SuggestBot suggest pages for you to improve. Update pages with old (ref or note template) citations to the new references format. Patrol new pages and help improving new articles. Collaborations To improve the quality of articles that are short or lacking in detail, Wikipedia's community organizes collaborations to expand articles.
Core topics collaboration The Amazon River flowing through the rainforest The Core Topics Collaboration works to improve essential Wikipedia topics. The current collaboration is Amazon rainforest. The Amazon Rainforest (Brazilian Portuguese: Floresta Amazônica or Amazônia; Spanish: Selva Amazónica or Amazonía) is a moist broadleaf forest in the Amazon Basin of South America. The area, also known as Amazonia, the Amazon jungle or the Amazon Basin, encompasses seven million square kilometers (1.7 billion acres), though the forest itself occupies some 5.5 million square kilometers (1.4 billion acres), located within nine nations: Brazil (with 60 percent of the rainforest), Peru (with 13 percent of the rainforest, second after Brazil), Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. States or departments in four nations bear the name Amazonas after it. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests and comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest in the world. Merging is the process combining two (or sometimes more) articles into a new article, or adding the content of one article to another. You'll need to be familiar with the associated templates. Before you begin, you need to know the details of merging and moving pages. After you read that, you're ready to begin consolidating and improving articles! WikiProjects WikiProjects are ongoing team efforts to improve articles having to do with a particular subject, and to manage the logistics of that topic. Hundreds exist—examine the master list to find one that interests you. They are separate from, though may work with, Collaborations. Language translation Wikipedia is not just in English. Versions exist in many different languages. To fill in some of the English Wikipedia's gaps, we translate articles from other languages into English.
