In the spring of 1994, Canadian peacekeepers were deployed to Rwanda as part of a United Nations mission. The mission was criticized for the perceived failure to prevent or intervene in the genocide that occurred in the country, dispite Canadian General Roméo Dallaire, (commander of UNAMIR) warning top to UN officials.[2][3]
