My Ph.D was in applied mathematician working at the University of Cambridge University on the consistent histories approach to quantum mechanics. After that I worked at the University of Hokkaido in Japan for four years on snow avalanches. Then back in Cambridge for 11 years researching fluid dynamics with a particular interest in snow avalanches, granular flows and gravity currents. I've also worked at the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research in Davos and the Maths department at UBC, but currently I am Professor of Geohazards at the university of Durham.
