From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, I'm an undergraduate history & modern languages student in Liverpool, England. Very interested in anything to do with Europe - not just languages, but travel, culture, politics, history, music, food...

I'm fairly new here, but I've lurked for a month or two before I created this account. Probably I won't be much of an editor because I'm short of time for proper research (with actual books in the library!), and I don't see any point in adding more unverified information. Edits I do make will probably be travel or history related, and despite the name I'll try not to set the encyclopedia on fire.

Feel free to say hello though, I may burn but I don't bite :-)

Will try to do something useful here soon. I think I'll start by translating the French article on Nicholas Frochot, the first Prefect of the Seine appointed by Napoleon, who created four of Paris' great cemeteries (Pere Lachaise, Montmartre, Montparnasse and Passy). He fell for the attempted coup of General [[[Claude François de Malet|Malet]] in 1812, and was forced to retire when Napoleon found out.

Just noticed that Prefect of the Seine redirects to Prefecture of Police, which is incorrect for the Napoleonic period. Next project :-)
