Nationalism/unionism/republicanism/whatever[edit]

At present, the template seems to combine these in a rather unhealthy way. Alongside the various English/Scottish/Welsh/Northern Ireland independence ideologies and parties there are all the various parties that advocate maintenance of the union. I realise that obviously one is Scottish or whatever nationalism versus what could be considered British nationalism, although I would dispute that unionism and nationalism are the same thing. Does anyone have an objection to the removal of the unionist parties from Northern Ireland, since they are not nationalist per se? O Fenian (talk) 20:34, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Unionism, the DUP and the UUP should be removed. I'm not sure if Scottish republicanism belongs there either. ~Asarlaí 00:08, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Surely the Labour Party and Conservative Party belong on the list as British Nationalist parties? 84.134.190.118 (talk) 20:09, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
it's really a problem of the definition of 'nation' - all of these groups rightly use the term 'nationalist', just they seem to have different views on which 'nation' is the one that should be kept together. --KarlB (talk) 15:04, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and I really think this template is lacking in quality. The inclusion criterian is both highly subjective (who is nationalist? what is nationalism?) and arbritary (who and what is included? political parties, pressure groups?) WP:OVERCAT Clearly too complicated for a template - I suggest deletion. --phazakerley (talk) 03:17, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the template could be improved on the criteria parties are included on it. What I am particularly unsure about is the inclusion of any independentist party other than the SNP as nationalist. Once Scotland is independent, noone would even remotely think of the Greens or SSP as nationalist; nationalist and independentist are two different things entirely.
