Vermaelen's height is incorrect.[edit]

{{editsemiprotected}} His height in the Personal Information bar is listed as 6 ft 1. That is incorrect as he is a very tall centreback. His correct height is 6 foot 4 (193 cm) as is listed on the Belgian football site. Can an established user please change it?

I don't know how you've got this. He is NOT 193cm. He is slightly under 6ft, about 182cm. Look at a picture of him. He is a couple inches smaller than Robin van Persie, who I believe is not 2m.

He is listed here on Voetbalzone as 1 meter 86, and here (cached) on Ajax site as 180cm.
For now, I'm tagging his height as 'under discussion' - hopefully someone will be able to source some definitive reliable sources so that this can be verified, and thus remove that tag and cite it. For now, I'm removing the editsemiprotected request.  Chzz  ►  19:38, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{editsemiprotected}} According to Sky Sports (http://www.skysports.com/football/player/0,19754,11913_285782,00.html), a reliable news source, and definitely more established than voetbalzone, Vermaelen is not 6'1. There would not have been a mention of his height as a problematic feature of him, if he was as tall as listed here. As a note, unlike what the first user in this page argues, the official Belgian national football team also lists him as 180cm (about 5'11) - http://www.footbel.be/en/nationale_elftallen/rode_duivels/spelersa.html - and so do countless other websites and information sources.

He's 5'11... seriously undersized for a centre half. He's listed on wikipedia as 5'12" which is impossible.

5'11" is not 'seriously undersized' for a centre-back, just slightly undersized. Carvalho, Ayayla, Phil Jones, Cannavaro, Baresi, all under 6ft.

Possible Arsenal Transfer[edit]

He has not officially signed for Arsenal yet, it is still just a rumor no matter how many newspapers state it. Take Arsenal off of his list of clubs.

I agree, I've removed Arsenal from the infobox. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 17:19, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-removed the arsenal transfer after constant readdition as neither clubs have confirmed the transfer Jaydub47 (talk) 12:37, 13 June 2009 (UT

How could he possibly have Cesc Fabregas' shirt number because he is no.4 and no.7 is currently being used by Tomáš Rosický Now he could possibly move to arsenal he will take a medical on Friday the 19th of june 2009 and should be offiially an arsenal player —Preceding unsigned comment added by Timipre (talkcontribs) 10:34, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

His height is now official! It's 182 cm (6ft) according to the official Arsenal webpage. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/factfile-belgian-defender-thomas-vermaelen —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cescsshadow (talkcontribs) 15:41, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vermaelen is actully 6ft according to http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/factfile-belgian-defender-thomas-vermaelen

He is 15 ft and 25 stone. He is the hulk.

182cm is 5'11. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.53.236.155 (talk) 20:57, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, 182cm is 71.6535 inches, so it's closer to 6 feet than 5 feet, 11 inches. Rigel1 (talk) 19:19, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Squad Number[edit]

Where has his squad number come from, it's not listed on the Arsenal site. Please show reference. Twsf (talk) 15:40, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, when you look at the players page, his squad number hasn't been added yet. Funnily enough though, if you try to buy a new home shirt from the official Arsenal online store, you can select 5 Vermaelen to go on the back. So I suppose it's safe to assume his squad number will be 5, previously held by Toure Toer86 (talk) 15:47, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arsenal Goals and Appearances[edit]

One is requested to check Vermaelen's Arsenal goals and appearances on the Arsenal's official site first before updating over here. Here is the link: http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players/thomas-vermaelen Gagandeep (talk) 16:24, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the stats were edited wrongly by someone. Thats, I was emphasizing again. Gagandeep (talk) 12:07, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but please read the infobox instructions. Chensiyuan (talk) 11:33, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely Double[edit]

"Vermaelen scored an unlikely double". To be fair, that makes no sense at all, I've seen that happen a billion times, especially defenders, so I think we need to fix that. – Michael (talk) 22:33, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Assists Statistics[edit]

I see no point in having an assists column in his stats if it's not going to be maintained. So far he has 1 assist against Portsmouth, which is backed up by his ESPN Soccernet page (http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=40543&league=ENG.1&season=2009&cc=5739). I've tried to edit the article but I can't because the page is semi-protected. I'd be glad if someone else could do it. (I don't mind helping to keep it updated once I've got the necessary privileges). Thanks --Renoog (talk) 06:45, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vermaelen's successor as Arsenal captain is Mikel Arteta, as announced on the club's official website: http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20140810/arteta-appointed-arsenal-captain His tenure as Arsenal captain was from 2012 to 2014. 213.120.31.102 (talk) 16:42, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done I don't see where this information would fit into the article, as whoever took over after he left the club is only vaguely connected to him.

Copa del Rey[edit]

@Qed237: He didn't play but as far as I know for first team medals it has nothing to do with playing or not as long as he is registered with the first team he wins a medal (same for 3rd goalie and backup goalie) you can check Barca official website and you can see him with the player at the picture of champions ( unlike B team players if they didn't play a game ) and there isnt any B team players with him . thank you Adnan (talk) 22:42, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

here is a video for it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA_iJqipTGg you can see staff and players of first team .

Adnan (talk) 22:44, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I guess spain has different rules than others but for league usually you have to play a certain amount of matches. Qed237 (talk) 22:46, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes in premier league you need to play a certain games(which makes sense to be honest) for sure, but not in Spain as far as I know as you can see at the videos . :) Thanks for listening :)

Transfer Fee[edit]

I think the listed transfer fee of £15 million is incorrect. On FC Barcelona's official site they state the fee was:

"10 million Euros, with a further five million in performance bonuses and 3.8 million if the team win the Champions League" - [1]

UEFA Champions League Medal[edit]

A question here; has there already been a discussion on the WIKI Football page over Thomas Vermaelen's 2014–15 UEFA Champions League medal (or lack thereof) with Barcelona? If there has, then feel free to ignore my comment (although please do let me know if this was the case!), but I'm wondering whether the title should be included in Vermaelen's hours. If I'm not wrong, from live footage of the match, I remember him taking part in the medal ceremony, despite not making a single appearance in the competition due to injury, and this article from a reliable source such as The Independent shows a picture of him collecting a medal from UEFA president Michel Platini after the final victory over Juventus, for which he was not called up, although it also mentions that a source of questionable authenticity claimed that UEFA had asked him and Claudio Bravo, among other team players, to return their medals as they did not appear in the competition (this strikes me as unusual as it is common for all registered players on the team's 25–player official list which is submitted to UEFA prior to the start of the competition and the knock–out stages to receive a medal, regardless of whether or not they appeared in the competition). Barcelona's profile lists him as a treble winner, crediting him with the Copa del Rey title as well despite not appearing in the competition (once again, there was a discussion over other players being credited with the title...I believe that all players in Spain receive a winners' medal if they are part of a squad, even if they do not appear in the competition. Is there any further reliable infromation over whether or not he should be credited with the 2014–15 Champions League, and possibly the 2014–15 Copa del Rey? Thanks! Best, Messirulez (talk) 03:21, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
