As the clay court season is about to start in a few weeks, one thinks of Thomas Muster. He would still win them all, if he was still playing (and a few years younger)Who can you see beating him? If you look at the top 50 players there's no one there to compete at his level on clay, (not even Hewitt), and this has been some six years after Muster has retired. Agassi maybe but doubt it, as his game is more suited to faster courts, altough give credit where it's due he's won the French,and coming back from 100 and somthing in the world to no.2 is a really great achievment. Thomas Muster though was really something special, the likes of which we may never see again.

SORRY--winning only one French Open pretty much disqualifies you from being considered "one of the greatest clay court players the game has produced." By that standard, the list should include: Michael Chang, Gaston Gaudio, Albert Costa, and very nearly Martin Verkerk, etc.

Wimbledon[edit]

Maybe mention should be made of his dreadful record at Wimbledon compared to the other slams. At the time it was close to a standing joke in Britain that he'd be "injured" (the newspapers strongly hinted that at least some were "convenient" injuries) just before Wimbledon. Yes, I remember much debate in the newspapers at the time as to how he can achieve World No1 with his poor Wimbledon record. I've just added the following - "He remains the only World No.1 singles player of the Open Era who has never won a match at Wimbledon." I suppose this happened pre-Open Era at some point given the difficulties of travelling the world several decades ago, but it is expected nowadays that players of any significance win at least one match at each Grand Slam at some point in their careers. I don't know if Muster is alone in doing this, so please correct my text if you have better info than I do. Niki2006 (talk) 15:08, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
After a quick Google search it appears he was not happy after being seeded so low in 1996[1] (he was world #2 in the rankings but was demoted to #7 seed. I guess he didn't want to come back to Wimbledon after that. 189.223.101.170 (talk) 04:32, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency re;Super 9, Master Series[edit]

Error at "winning Masters on 3 different surfaces[edit]

Dear Editors,

I would like to draw your attention to a factual error on the page of Thomas Muster https://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Thomas_Muster. In the 3rd row of the first paragraph it is written: "Muster is one of only three players to win Masters titles on the three different surfaces of clay, carpet, and hard court." This statement shows controversy due to the fact has been listed on another wikipedia site of the Tennis Masters Series records and statistics (https://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Tennis_Masters_Series_records_and_statistics). On that site you can find an chart of "Winners of the series tournaments on the three surfaces" where more than 3 players are mentioned as winner on 3 different surfaces. It would be highly recommended to implement any specific distinction e.g. Tennis Masters/ATP Masters or after 1990 or something like these. Leaving unchanged the current chart, it would mean 4 players won (and not 3) Masters on 3 different players.
