Plot summary issues[edit]

After watching this film earlier tonight, I have made some heavy edits to the plot summary to make it more simple and comprehensible and omit unnecessary detail. However, I'm not sure I've actually made it much shorter in total, so I have not yet removed the maintenance notice. Perhaps someone else, or a later me, can slim down the wordcount – which hopefully should be easier now that the overall throughlines of the film's plot are more clear. --Auntiegravitas (talk) 03:08, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cast[edit]

It seems strange that the cast should be divided into 'Behind the scenes' and 'Actors in "The Nancy Starling".' All of them, in particular Bill Nighy, feature prominently in both the film and the film-within-a-film. And categorising most of the actors as "Behind the scenes" trivialises the real-life portion of the film, which is in fact the vast majority of it. Can we do away with the division? £30m budget[edit]

I, again, deleted from the infobox the £30m included as the production budget. The budget for Their Finest was not £30m. There has been a misreading of the source that has been used to support this wrong information. The source does not say the film's production budget was £30m. It says "the film was backed by the Welsh Government’s £30m Media Investment Budget." In other words, The Welsh Government has a £30m Media Investment Budget. The Welsh Government did not spend all of its Media Investment Budget to co-finance Their Finest along with BBC Films and Pinewood Pictures.

If you do a web search for the film's production budget you will find Lone Scherfig say in her Women and Hollywood interview: "And I drew attention to the limitations we were dealing with, unfortunately, because the script was bigger than the budget, so she had to make some sacrifices in order to make ends meet."

The Hollywood Reporter states: "While the strong ensemble cast is Their Finest's most valuable asset, the movie also looks quite handsome on what appears to be a modest budget...." RogerEbert says: "The film crews, both Scherfig’s and her fictional one onscreen, deliver picturesque backdrops on a modest budget." kino.dk states: "Filmen som er lavet af BBC Films og The Welch Government (samt 8-10 andre produktionselskaber) lider, i mine øjne, under at den er lavet på et lidt for skrabet budget." Translation: "The film made by BBC Films and The Welsh Government (as well as 8-10 other production companies), in my view, suffers from the fact that it is made on a too bare-bones budget."

"£30m" is not a "modest budget". "£30m" would not force "sacrifices in order to make ends meet". Pyxis Solitary (talk) 10:58, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
