As far as I remember, the 12 hours of instruction claim is from James Asher's "Learning Another Language Through Actions", his book about Total Physical Response. The 6 months claim is a little more hazy in my recollection, though I think it's from something by Dr. J. Marvin Brown (see also this article which makes a 6-8 month claim). "Controversy"[edit]

The "controversy" section is full of speculation and original research. Suggest removal until it can be verified. Looks like the same person also derailed the section below to make an unverified weasel-words point that's not really relevant to this article and adds nothing. A controversy implies there has been some sort of active dispute, not one single article written that offers a differing point of view.
