Comment[edit]

So...what's the deal with this Chinese script? I am assuming that "Sea bass" is not a transliteration of something in Chinese or Japanese; nor is it a fish that is found exclusively--or even largely--in Chinese or Japanese waters. --Max power 11:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No idea what it is. I've removed it. Anyone who wants it back is welcome to revert. -- Hongooi 13:32, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest redirect to Serranidae[edit]

I've attempted to redirect most article links to specific species articles, but there are several that need the attention of someone with more subject knowledge. For the ones that still point to this page, how about changing this page to redirect to the genus Serranidae article, and move the current list here to "Sea bass (disambiguation)"". I know not all the various species listed on the disambig are in that genus, but most are, and that article could be updated with a hatnote to the new disambig page. Thoughts? Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Rough consensus that this is not a good idea, similar to several other similar recent proposals. Andrewa (talk) 12:36, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

– Sea bass would work better as a set index article containing just the fish entries, with the remaining meanings on a disambiguation page. After the proposed moves, I will replace the fish entries on the dab with a single link to the SIA, which is the primary topic. Nick Number (talk) 16:08, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. The primary topic for the term is the collection of fish known by the name, which should be indexed with more expansive information. bd2412 T 19:35, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The suggested replacement article for sea bass is also a disambiguation article which in effect creates two different disambiguation articles with the same name, one only being disambiguated with its title. The best option so far, unless a specific type of fish article will be used as the primary topic, is to just expand the SINGLE disambiguation article to include all varieties of fish, people and other topics. Creating multiple disambiguations only causes a mess. ~ [ Scott M. Howard ] ~ [ Talk ]:[ Contribs ] ~ 01:42, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose—We don't need to make this complicated; if there's no article about all sea bass fish, then the disambiguation is fine. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 04:45, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Agree with Scott and Erik. Not seeing any advantage for the reader in the proposed moves. Jenks24 (talk) 05:44, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
