Myalgic encephalomyelitis[edit]

I have removed both edits, and here are my reasons:

Consensus has repeatedly been demonstrated on talk:chronic fatigue syndrome and talk:myalgic encephalomyelitis when it existed that both terms for ME (encephalomyelitis and encephalopathy) are considered interchangeable with CFS and CFS is the term of greatest service to readers as it is most prominent. I consider this completely and utterly finished, and invite anyone who contests it to review the two talk pages in question to see if consensus has not been adequately served. The mainstream medical community considers the two terms interchangeable, use them so, and are sufficiently uncertain about the condition that they have avoided choosing a new name until there is certainty. It is undue weight to give ME a separate article or a separate link on this page. That brings me to my second point, the manual of style for disambiguation pages states that there should be one link per line, unpiped in most circumstances; it should go directly to the link. Myalgic encephalomyelitis does not exist as a separate page, it is a redirect for the CFS page; that alone means it should not be linked. It would also add a second link to the bullet, again out of keeping with the DAB MOS. It is is POV-pushing to include both links or to indicate that there is any merit to the ME page being a separate article. Silly me, I assumed ME was a page. Apologies. Why didn't I use popups? Verbal chat 14:14, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not, after extensive (exhaustive really) discussion (here is the latest, here is another, here is a third, here is a fourth). I don't know why you didn't use popups, and my only possible explanations involve questioning your parenthood. Popups rule, BOW BEFORE POPUPS!!!!!!1!!11!1! Even were it to be a separate page, there should still be only one link per line; that there's no separate page means that it's an unlinked initial statement followed by a linked qualifier. DAB pages are a pain in the ass to format and I always question a lot of the nuances. This, however, isn't a nuance.
Did I mention you should have used popups? WLU (t) (c) Wikipedia's rules:simple/complex 15:51, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since editing the M.E. section, I do not understand this condition to be part of "Science and Computing". To many, this is a living day-to-day condition, and not to simply be contained in the subject of 'science'. I suggest altering the categories, or moving chronic fatigue to the 'other' category. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Samshipstone (talkcontribs) 12:30, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It happened during this overhaul. I suppose the editor saw medicine as science so put it there. Personaly I have no problem with it's being either under Science or under Other. --Thrissel (talk) 22:08, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The following is too close to nonsense to be made sense of by anyone but experts, probably even if history is checked:

* Mobile Equipment, part of a Mobile Station (MS) in the GSM system architecture

If you can make at least one good single-link entry out of it, please explain here. Should it become two entries?

edit semi-protected[edit]

{{editsemiprotected}} Remove the period at the end of the entry

Myalgic encephalomyelitis, a medical condition generally defined by persistent fatigue unrelated to exertion.

to then read:

Myalgic encephalomyelitis, a medical condition generally defined by persistent fatigue unrelated to exertion

The period does not belong there since it is not a grammatically complete English sentence (just in case anyone actually needs that explanation). Thank you. --87.79.139.43 (talk) 08:19, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Also, there should be no redirects in dab entries (read the MoS if you don't know about that yet). Therefore, the entry "Malic enzyme" needs to be changed. The link goes to Malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) and that's what the link should read. Change the entry to
Malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating), also referred to as Malic enzyme

  •  Done I think that covers the issues. -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 12:27, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you review the MOS, specifically MOS:DP#Piping and redirects, a little more closely. Piping a link (that begins a dab entry) to display a different title than the target is definitely not permitted; redirects are permitted in these cases (see under "Where redirecting may be appropriate": "Linking to a redirect can also be helpful when the redirect contains the disambiguated term and could serve as an alternative name for the target article"). Alter piping of link in lede entry[edit]

Please alter the line of the lede entry, which reads: * Me, the object form of the pronoun [[I (pronoun)|I]]

so it reads as follows: * Me, the object form of [[I (pronoun)|the pronoun, I]]

My reasons are two-fold:

  1. Pragmatically, even on a large, high-contrast PC VDU, it is nigh impossible, with the naked eye, to distinguish a navy, san-serif I from a black, san-serif I. As link-text underlining was removed from Wikimedia's cascading style sheets, this means that most would not be aware of that there is a link to a related article in the entry. I assumed there wasn't on visiting this page previously.
  2. In line with the guidelines:
    • the current piping is exactly what MOS:DABPIPE envisages prohibiting when it says 'Subject to certain exceptions as listed below, piping or redirects should not be used in disambiguation pages. [its emphasis] This is to make it clear to the reader which topic is the subject of an article title. For example, on the disambiguation page Moment, in the entry Moment (physics), the parenthetical disambiguator "(physics)" should be visible so that the reader sees which "moment" topic the entry is about, among others sharing the same base title. In many cases, what would be hidden by a pipe is exactly what the user would need in order to find their intended article.'
    • my piping preserves the incumbent natural order of the sentence as it is significantly more readable and is a minor change to the link text (from what MOS:DABPIPE would default to) only swapping the words around, not dissimilar to the Dragon Ball example in the MOS:DABPIPING list of exemptions to MOS:DABPIPE. Even if that weren't the case readability is a reason to WP:IAR and such piping to re-order is common on WP even occasionally in DPs.

The addition of the comma within the pipe text would seems to aid readability given the following word is very short and not italicised/quoted, and is traditionally considered by most style guides (MoS doesn't have a view) to be syntactically necessary, in formal writing at least, to set apart an appositive.
