I think there's a confusion here between "irrelevant" and "embarrassing". Please make a stronger case here for leaving the information out before deleting it from the article again. Nareek 16:00, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Binghamton timeline[edit]

As someone who was actually at SUNY-Binghamton in the early 1980s, I assume that the reference to Woiwode returning to North Dakota in 1978 is a typo. 1988 seems more likely, although I didn't study under Woiwode and so didn't pay such close attention to his departure. In any event, he would have had difficulty taking over for Gardner after Gardner's 1982 death had he (Woiwode) left four years earlier.

I also have the impression that Woiwode had been at least visiting faculty *before* Gardner's death, even though he only took permanent status after he took Gardner's vacant position. But I could be entirely wrong about this. Still, it seems evident that this section could use better research and fact-checking. Thank you.

(Side note: IIRC, Woiwode was far less popular with the students in the writing program than Gardner had been. [I seem to recall the term "asshole" being used.] This may have had something to do with Woiwode's return to North Dakota, although much more extensive research would be needed on that subject; all my information here is strictly second-hand.)
