When was the island named Kennedy Island, and by who? The page says its local name is Kasolo Island, so another question would be 'how long was it Kasolo Island before it was Kennedy Island'. Seems like when Kennedy, in the process of saving his own life and the lives of others, stepped upon the shores of this luckily-placed paradise, he was stepping onto Kasolo Island. The sources suggest that "Kennedy Island" is the English term, and Kasolo Island is (and was) the term in the local language (I'm guessing Pijin). --LukeSurltc 16:18, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, and thanks. The page sources don't tell us if the fellow who bought the island for a bowlful of porridge was the one who changed the name for commercial purposes. From what I've seen so far the name of the Island should be either Kasolo or Plum Pudding Island (? Plum Pudding Island - why couldn't Gilligan have gotten stranded there), as those were the historical names and not the Kennedy label. Not a big deal, but I like it when Wikipedia gets things like that right according to the locals, so maybe a page-renaming down the road a few steps may be the way to go (or not). Thanks again.
