Buildings and structures in St. Louis Category[edit]

Since the Gateway International Raceway is in Illinois it is neither in St. Louis nor Missouri. Therefore I am removing it from the Buildings and structures in St. Louis Category (Steve 21:06, 28 April 2006 (UTC))[reply]

History conflict[edit]

"The current oval and infield road course were built in 1969..." "In 1995 Chris Pook, ..., demolished the old tracks,..." Since the old tracks were demolished in 1995, the current ones can't be the ones built in 1969. Bizzybody (talk) 20:46, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The history of St. Louis International Raceway really should be added to this article, as it was on the same location and, in its final year of operation, was apparently known as Gateway International Raceway itself. - The Bushranger One ping only 23:37, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

World Wide Technology RacewayGateway Raceway – "Gateway" is overwhelmingly the WP:COMMONNAME used in sources, such as Road & Track, Autosport, Autoweek, the Indianapolis Star, Speedcafe, Racer, Speed Sport, Race Fans, and by Indycar themselves. The WP:OFFICIAL name seems to be rarely used in sources, if at all, and thus lacks the recognisability necessary for an article title. While "Gateway" is too vague by itself for a title, natural disambiguation can easily be derived from the addition of the word "Raceway"; "Circuit" or "Speedway" would also be appropriate disambiguators. The proposed title is also more WP:CONCISE than the current title while being equally WP:PRECISE. The current title can remain in the lead and infobox and as a redirect. • The problem I see with this is that "Gateway Raceway" sounds like a formal name, which this is not. A disambiguated title would be Gateway (raceway), or the like. Gateway Motorsports Park appears to be better attested. BD2412 T 18:27, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the sources I would support moving the page to Gateway Motorsports Park. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 07:18, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gateway Motorsports ParkWorld Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway – This is a more recognizable compromise between the historic name known to locals and the sponsored name, which may be better known to NASCAR fans elsewhere. • Strong oppose - Ephemeral sponsored names lead to unstable page titles and threaten the neutrality of the encyclopaedia. The "Gateway" name has been widely used for decades so is overwhelmingly more likely to be familiar to readers. Note that the two independent sources you linked there both simply say "Gateway" in their titles/headlines because that's what people who aren't being paid to call it the "British Home Stores Circuit presented by Woolworths" actually call the venue. WP:CONCISE and WP:PRECISE also play a role here. "World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway" is far-more longwinded than "Gateway Motorsports Park" and "World Wide Technology Raceway" is overly precise in that it only refers to the venue during the four-or-so years that it has had that sponsor, when the track has been referred to as some variation of "Gateway" for at least a quarter-of-a-century now (see WP:PRESENTISM and WP:RECENTISM). There's also the issue that "Toys R Us Speedway brought to you by Alitalia" could be anywhere on the planet, whereas the "Gateway" name refers to a wellknown nearby landmark.
