Key milestone in the housing bubble[edit]

This act deserves more attention since it forced fannie mae and freddie mac to purchase subprime mortgages, relieving predatory lenders of financial liability for their malfeasance. In combination with GWBush's nation-wide obstruction of state investigations into predatory lending http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/13/AR2008021302783.html , which relieved them of legal liability as well, the stage was set for massive fraud.
