"Dickens' dyslexia"?[edit]

In the Origins section, the following can be read: "The marker identified Scroggie as a "meal man" (corn merchant), but Dickens misread this as "mean man", due to the fading light and his mild dyslexia." The sources for this "dyslexia" actually state it as "an episode of mild dyslexia" - making it a mocking figure of speech. Furthermore, when searching for the word 'dyslexia' on the article concerning Charles Dickens, the search gives zero results. This whole section is highly doubtful. It seems the whole story of Ebeneezer Scroggie may be a hoax [1]. The original source from which the story evolved is a palpable fantasy [2]. Paul B (talk) 11:05, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As the Scroggie story has been revived yet again, I've added a comment to the article citing one of Paul B's links from above. The citation itself remarks on the popularity of the story, so - hoax or not - I think perhaps it's worth leaving in along with a note such as the one I added. Then anyone looking at the page can make up their own minds. I suppose it might be better moved to the "popular culture" section though. Pastychomper (talk) 14:18, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Links in 'Appearance in the novella'[edit]

The following links in the 'Appearance in the novella' did not make sense:

"damned to walk to the Earth for eternity" leading to the 'Hell in Christian beliefs' entry. 'Hell' and 'walking the earth for eternity' are two separate forms of posthumous punishment; hell is definitively a different place than earth. I have changed the link to point to the Damnation entry. http://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=Damnation

"Tiny Tim has died; his father could not afford to give him proper care on his small manager salary" leading to the 'Child neglect' entry. This seems a bit harsh on poor Bob Cratchit, who wasn't neglecting his son but was instead treating him to the best of his financial ability. I have removed the link.

"The spirit then shows Scrooge scenes related to the death of a "wretched man"" leading to the 'Extortion' entry. This implies the spirit was extorting Scrooge, which doesn't make sense; the spirits' actions are for Scrooge's good, not their own. I have removed the link.

The link to "Mr Fezziwig" redirects to the main entry for the novella, as presumably he isn't deemed a major enough character to have his own entry. I have removed the link. Kilburn London (talk) 09:22, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Organizational suggestions[edit]

Hey guys! I was wondering if you thought it would be a good idea to help with the flow of the article by putting in some more headings. For instance, a section for each ghost, or a section for the epistemology of Scrooge's name, etc.. I also thought it might be a good idea to try and find some pictures for a few of the appearances for Scrooge. I think that would really liven up the atmosphere in the article. What citations?[edit]

The section on "Portrayals" has been flagged with a "Citation needed" banner. I don't understand why. Each item listed contains a link to the article on that item, which confirms that the person listed as having played that role did, in fact, play that role.
