Expansion[edit]

Cece Winans has been in the singing industry for a quarter century...isn't there more to add? Perhaps an alblum chart similar to Karen Clark-Sheard's. More information on her personal life may be in order as well. Please discuss. Jgcarter 03:08, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Funny you sent this to me.. I was eyeing it for the same reason. I noticed it was a little scant. Generally most Christian and gospel artists are underrepresented on Wikipedia, so since I went buckwild on Kierra "Kiki" Sheard, The Clark Sisters and Karen Clark Sheard, I've started on Tonéx and Detrick Haddon and made a note to add some pertinent information to CeCe Winans.   • Record Label
  • Month of release
  • Singles

Singles...Redundant?[edit]

Hi all. Since I did the discography chart, is there a need to list the singles again? I think we can take the list below it out. Also, I haven't seen it but I am sure "Anybody Wanna Pray" is a single. It was the hottest song on the album. I am sure it was a single. Anyone else see it? Just curious... You know, I started to do that twice on Thursday, but everytime I did, the power went out. I was rather hot about it. So I gave up. But by the way, you should add "One And The Same". It was included on Alabaster Box, but the promo single was actually released as Take 6 featuring CeCe, in support of the group's greatest hits album. And don't forget "Tonight Tonight" from BeBe's album. That and the Prince of Egypt song is all I can think of right now. But yeah... for the time being? Whats Going On Here?[edit]

Would somebody care to explain why Cece's pic keeps getting removed? I never heard that no fair use images could go in the infobox...is that true? And why is this only happening to Cece's page (not Mary Mary, Kierra Sheard, Clark Sisters, J Moss etc). Somebody please explain :o) Jgcarter 15:42, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia policy on 'fair use' of images has as its first criteria:
1. No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information. If unfree material can be transformed into free material, it should be done instead of using a "fair use" defense. For example, the information in a newspaper article can easily be used as the basis of an original article and then cited as a reference. Maps and diagrams can often be redrawn from original sources, though simply "tracing" copyrighted material does not make it free. Neither photographs nor sound clips, however, can usually be "transformed" in this way. However, if the subject of the photograph still exists, a freely-licensed photograph could be taken.
Another criteria in the policy is:
8. The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose.
'Fair use' of images in Wikipedia is deliberately restrained to make sure that Wikipedia stays well within the limits of the law. If you feel that the article really needs a picture of CeCe, you can write to her requesting that a photo be released under a GFDL or CC-BY-SA license. Alternatively, someone can seek out an opportunity to photograph her in a public setting, and release the photo under a free use license.

My interpretation is that images of album covers may generally only be used in articles about the albums, and not to illustrate other articles. I have used an album cover in an article about a group, but I used it specifically to illustrate a point about the group's performances (see Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts). Vocal Profile[edit]

Someone posted here that Cece is a soprano, but if you listen to her sing, she sounds more like an alto (who can hit some high notes here and there). Yolanda Adams, on the other hand, is a soprano. Of course, I don't have documentation on this, so I didn't change it, but I do know that Cece's highest note is a C6 in the song Because of You, from her alone in His Pesence CD. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gospoman (talk • contribs) 20:06, 2 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Yeah, I was surprised that she was listed as a soprano too. Yeah, she did hit some high notes in songs like "Pray" and "No One" but if you listen to songs like "Slippin", "All In Your Name", and "A Place Like This", you see that she is definately an alto. Yes, she does hit some high notes (and occasionally some very low notes) but I think she alto is her prime. Could we get some sources? OK how do you back up the claims on the vocal profile? I don't think there is any article about Cece's vocal range, but I do have the CDs and that is the highest recorded note that she has sung (Because of You, track 3 on Alone in His Presence). Do you have to post a link to a clip of the song, or is there any other method? Is it enough to let people know what CD the song is on so that people can verify for themselves?

About Cece's Vocal Profile: Yes, Cece is a Sprinto Mezzo-Soprano. A Mezzo Soprano is between soprano and alto, Sprinto means loud (which Cece is, lol). So yes, I fully agree with that

Sales figures[edit]

This should be added to CeCe Winans profile- she is the highest-selling and most-awarded female gospel artist of all time. Sources are the following:

For the record, your sources state
The pbs page states she has sold 5 million albums in the U.S.
The bettertogether page looks like an edited version of the content on the PBS site and neither has an author, which makes me think they're both press releases.
The third link is bad.
Winan's own site is the same press release as the first two.

For those just joining us, Texas anon claims ‎It states on Wikipedia that Yolanda Adams has sold 10 million albums. She has sold 4.5 million albums worldwide yet https://www.bet.com/music/2019/11/18/soul-train-awards-yolanda-adams-lady-of-soul-interview.html clearly states "with nearly 10 million records sold worldwide". Now I think I understand the confusion because the anon added multiple copies of a CeCe Winans press release to Talk:CeCe Winans the most accessible and complete is at https://www.pbs.org/national-memorial-day-concert/performer/cece-winans/ which states, "she's sold in excess of 5 million albums in the U.S." Now if you're paying attention the claim for Adams is worldwide while the claim for Winans is only within the United States. Without proof, therefore, and against the source that was supplied, our anon has been indicating that the former's sales are lower without taking into consideration the area for the sales.
Now, the lead states "3.5 million record sales certified by RIAA, and 5 million estimated in total sales", so I'm not sure what Texas anon wants us to change since it's already listed. What we really could use are global sales figures for Winans. The Texas anon was just blocked for a month, so those figures may have to wait. I really don't think it's fair that someone always take out the albums Cece has sold with Bebe. It's like someone is trying to take away her sales and that's not cool. Cece is the best selling, most awarded female gospel artist of all time. And that you take away from her.
