Extended-Confirmed-Protected Edit Request[edit]

Could somebody please replace "Arab countries" in the first line with "various Arab countries"? Some Arab countries are not involved in the conflict, while others are. Praxeria (talk) 05:44, 30 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can Great Britain be added to the list of belligerents, as supporters on the Arab side during the 1948-49 war?[edit]

Can Great Britain be added to the list of belligerents, as supporters on the Arab side during the 1948-49 war?

Britain conducted aerial operations against the Israelis. They also actively prevented them from entering the Sinai and encircling the Egyptian expeditionary forces, by threatening invasion, thus putting the Israelis at a disadvantage, arguably resulting in Egypt being able to hold on to parts of Palestine until the armistice.

Britain also explicitly supported, and recognised the Arab (Jordanian) conquest and annexation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and was the only nation in the UN to do so. Aligning with the Arab world in general, was also a stated interest of Britain at the time, I believe.

Whether this looks good or bad for the UK in retrospect, is a matter of perspective I suppose. They do deserve the recognition though. DJHellduck (talk) 17:23, 27 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Having regard to our own article 1948 Palestine war there were occasions when the British intervened, or threatened to, on the 'Arab'* side but these seem to have been part of an effort to stabilise the situation during their withdrawal and to 'enforce' international agreements.
They were there under a mandate for the creation of the Jewish State and seemed to be trying to hold the ring in a very complex situation while trying to extricate themselves..
If we were to include some good sourcing would be required. Lukewarmbeer (talk) 16:48, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
