von Brandt[edit]

Is there any support for Amanda von Brandt (other than the von in her surname) being a noblewoman? I will be in Sweden next month and am more than casually curious. Robert Greer (talk) 18:20, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Her article says she claimed to be a Swedish countess, and at Ira Aldridge she is described as as "self-styled Swedish countess", whereas the Northwestern University Library uses an unqualified "Countess". -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 10:34, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Afro-British"?[edit]

There was nothing "African" about Amanda Aldridge apart from the fact that her father was black.

Mealy-mouthed circumlocutory Americanisms to avoid using the word "black" are offensively ridiculous to those living in civilised nations.

Can we just change this, if her race has to be raised in the first sentence of the article, to "black"? --Matt Westwood 07:08, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem to me that the not infrequent use of geographical prefix identifiers for individuals, such as Italian-American, etc., would justify using the prefix Afro- to identify her national origin. This page states that Amanda Aldridge is "African-American" but is says she was born and died in London. She is not American in that case she is English or British.

Addition to Works[edit]

"On Parade" should be added to expand Aldridge's wide array of genres she composed for.
