"It dramatically changed vegetation in Southern Kyushu"[edit]

The sentence is ambiguous. What exactly does it mean? How did the eruption change the vegetation? What were the effects? Did it kill all of the vegetation or damage some of it? Were different types of vegetation affected to different degrees? How quickly was the vegetation damaged, and how quickly did it recover afterwards, if at all?
