Songs[edit]

I think it is enough to simply mention that only 3 songs do feature in the film and the other songs weren't used or just partly used in the film. I believe it's unnecessary to describe how and when the songs appear in the film, this is not included in any other film article. What say? Johannes003 (talk) 17:51, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GAN on hold[edit]

I have reviewed this article according to the requirements of the GA criteria and have placed the article on hold until the following issues are addressed. As you address each issue, either strike through the statement/place a check mark next to the issue and state how you addressed it (if necessary). If you disagree with a particular issue, state your rationale for doing so after the issue in question so a compromise can be reached.

  1. I tagged File:Aayirathiloruvan.png to be reduced in size. At most, one of the sides should be 300px.
Being done.
  1. It would be helpful since this is the English Wikipedia to have conversions for the rupees to perhaps dollars or euros for readers who may not be familiar with the currency equivalent. In addition, the dollars and pounds in the reception section should also have the rupees equivalent.
The amounts in the reception section (£29,517 and $340,082) should have conversions.
  2. "The film begins with an episode in 1279 AD, when the successor of the last great Chola Emperor, pending invasion, sends his people, to survive the threat." Sends his people where?
  3. "...and a member of the army going..." Army doesn't need to be wikilinked.
  4. "Shooting began in July 2007, and took place in various locations: Chalakudy, Kerala; Jaisalmer, Rajasthan; and other regions throughout India with a record number of extras." Move "a record number of extras" after "various locations"; use commas instead of the semicolons.
  5. The plot could use some cleanup, there's some redundant phrasing and grammar issues. Go over it a few times, and invite someone else to help out. Do not use lead-ins such as "in the film" or "the audience".
The two latest editors, have kindly re-worked the plot. Universal Hero (talk) 18:15, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  1. In the cast section, at the beginning of each second sentence the character name is repeated. Restructure it so that the second sentence just continues from the "actor as character" (example, "Karthi Sivakumar as Muthu, a chief..."
  2. "During the making of the film, Andrea was romantically linked with the director, Selvaraghavan, much to the pair's displeasure." To be clearer, specify who said Andrea was romantically linked with Selvaraghavan. Was it members of the cast? Critics? Others?
  3. I don't think that File:Aayirathil-oruvan-2.jpg complies with WP:FILMNFI. The image only shows the director and members of the cast. This can instead be replaced with a free image of one or more members of the cast. As it currently stands, there is no critical commentary within the article to require the image.
Although the image was moved to another section, it still does not have commentary within the prose that the image would need to be used to support it.
Hopefully with the image, I'm trying to show the hard work of the team - and how hard these shoots were, in the making of the project. Universal Hero (talk) 18:24, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If the image were showing an attempt to get a difficult shot, then that would possibly be beneficial for the article. Unfortunately, the image only shows the cast standing around and as it is non-free, its rationale isn't strong enough to warrant inclusion. Free images could be found that show the actors/actresses or director instead. If you instead want to include another screenshot/publicity shot, then maybe you can include [1] or [2], where you can comment on the number of extras used for filming (and maybe the amount of violence that resulted in the stricter rating). Or, if you can find sources talking about the costume design of the film, you can probably use [3] or again, one of the other two. Using just one of these images in place of the current one, would probably stand a better chance of remaining in the article if supported by commentary in the article and a strong rationale. If you upload one of these, make sure one of the sides is at most 300px and that the watermark isn't included. If you have further questions about including an image in the article please let me know. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 03:07, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  1. "Erum Ali, wife of actor Abbas, became the team's head costume designer,[13] whilst, Selvaraghavan's sister-in-law and Rajinikanth's daughter, Aishwarya Dhanush was signed on as an associate director." A comma is needed after Dhanush. Fix any other occurrences throughout the article.
  2. "The film's stunt director, Rambo Rajkumar, died in April 2009 with reviews after the release, unanimously praising his action choreography." As the sentence is currently written, it should either be split into two or rewritten ("died in April 2009 with reviews after the release" doesn't make sense).
  3. "The film's music released two months later to much appraisal in a well-held ceremony." Which ceremony? This is mentioned in the soundtrack section, but since it is first mentioned here, it should be clarified.
  4. "...and the sequence was shot for twenty days." "shot over twenty"
  5. "Shooting carried on in sets for three more months filming the scenes in the second half of the film." This needs to be rewritten.
  6. "The film, eighteen months into shoot, soon began to face questions about the progress of the film, with the producer, Ravindran, having to complain to the Tamil Film Producers Council that Karthi was trying to change his look for his next film, Paiyaa, following the long period he had spent with Aayirathil Oruvan." Try to cut down on the redundancy, "film" is mentioned several times in this one sentence.
  7. "In February 2009, the film was announced complete after 263 days of shoot..." In February 2009, filming was completed after 263 days of shooting..."
  8. "In regard to the long periods of shoot, the lead actor expressed that they were also unaware of the longetivity of the film's shoot." Redundant, try rewording this.
  9. "Andrea, originally signed for three months, whilst Reemma Sen signed for forty days, without knowing the film would last them two and a half years with 260 days of shoot." This sentence also should be rewritten, try flipping it around.
  10. "The film faced competition from three other Tamil films on the day..." "Aayirathil Oruvan faced competition from three other films released across Tamil Nadu: Kutty, directed by Selvaraghavan's brother, Dhanush, Naanayam, and 'Porkkalam.
  11. "Kutty" only needs to be linked to once in the reception section.
It's now not linked at all.
  12. "...which released on February 5..." Dates shouldn't be linked.
  13. "...Yuganiki Okkadu; took a strong opening and was declared a super hit" Change the semicolon to a comma. "Super hit" should be reworded to remain neutral unless that actual wording was used by someone (in that case quotation marks are needed).
  14. "Rediff.com, gave the film a highly 3.5 out of 5..." Remove "highly".
  15. "Moreover it claims that G V Prakash's..." "G. V. Prakash"
  16. "Karthi Sivakumar is unanimously praised, citing that he "is a scream.[35] Right from his introduction scene till the end, he is lovable and provides humour" and "has made a sensational comeback three years after his debut film".[35]" Why is the citation in the middle of this?
  17. There are several dabs that need to be fixed.
  18. Can anything be touched on about influence, home media, controversy, etc.? Anything else to expand the article?

Altogether, this article was informative on the topic and is well-sourced. I pointed out a lot of prose issues above and I would recommend having somebody else do a copyedit. Once that is completed, I will look over the article again and point out any other corrections that are needed. Any small issues I will then correct myself. Most of the above issues shouldn't be too difficult to address, but if you have any questions on them, please let me know. I have left the article on hold for seven days for the issues to be addressed. If they are fixed in this time, I will pass the article. If not, the article may be failed and can be renominated at WP:GAN. If necessary to address the above issues, and progress is being made, an extension may be allowed. If you have any questions or when you are done, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 04:09, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The work has completed in its entirity - with another user helping clean through the plot prose. I hope the changes can further strenghten the argument for the article to be promoted to a GA. Universal Hero (talk) 15:52, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I struck through the completed points. Some of the above still need to be addressed, and I elaborated on a few. The history doesn't show any other editor working on the plot, were you referring to another article? Please address the remaining issues and I'll give the article a final look-over and help with the prose. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 03:46, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Result: Delisted per consensus. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 12:30, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Plot summary too long, contravening WP:WAF. The cast section also needs sourcing, while there are instances of WP:WTW throughout. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 01:32, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would add that the Awards section should be renamed Accolades and is completely unreferenced. Also sources in the lead. Lankyant (talk) 03:04, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
