Erster Soldat des Deutschen Reiches[edit]

Some unsourced nonsense here about how "erster Soldat" means Hitler assumes "a self-claimed rank, effectively equivalent of Generalissimo". He was already generalissimo as commander-in-chief of the armed forces since 1938. "Erster Soldat" is just a populist turn of phrase, communicating something like "I'll be marching among you like a common soldier, at the head of the column". There's not the slightest implication of any actual military position.
