Date of opening/closing ceremonies[edit]

German Wikipedia has April 27 to July 27, This says May 5 to July 22. Which one is right? -- 80.171.243.92 (talk) 17:18, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

According to The official report The games started on May 5, but the opening ceremony wasn't until July 6. I've tried to change the date, but for some reason it won't stick. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.100.91.51 (talk) 23:31, 11 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Few GAN comments[edit]

I'm unable to complete a full GAN review, so I'll just post a few comments here rather than start a review page. Feel free to move these over.

Comments:

  • Maybe add a few more images for the individual events, esp. as these are so readily available.
  • Maybe section on the closing ceremonies.
  • Article could use more 'color', such as notable individuals involved, or specific situations that are interesting. This may mean reaching further beyond the Olympic Record doc more than has already been done. Note the New York Times has a number of articles about this Olympics in their archives. "1912 Olympics" didn't pull up much, but "Swedish Olympics" found many. For example, nytimes article dated July 16, 1912 mentions that the death of Lazaro cast a pall over the closing ceremonies. Another nytimes article describes a kerfuffle in the Scandinavian media regarding unsportsmanlike play by the British water polo team.

In general, heavy reliance on the large official report is probably unavoidable, and I don't think should deter from the GAN eval.LaTeeDa (talk) 16:05, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Possible source[edit]

archive.org have a copy of James Edward Sullivan's book on the 1912 Olympics here. I haven't had a chance to go through it in detail, but it looks like it might be useful to offset the use of the offical report mentioned above. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:55, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Inconsistency with infobox & navbox[edit]

The infobox has the 1920 games as the successor, while the navbox has the cancelled 1916 games as the successor. GoodDay (talk) 08:31, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
