Terry A. Doughty (born January 16, 1959) serves as a District Judge for the Fifth Judicial District Court in Louisiana, and is a nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.

Biography

Doughty was born in Rayville, Louisiana on January 16, 1959.[1] He received his Bachelor of Science, in finance, from Louisiana Tech University and his Juris Doctor from the Louisiana State University Law School.[2]

State judicial service

As a judge Doughty presides over criminal, civil, and juvenile cases arising in the parishes of Franklin, Richland, and West Carroll. He was elected to serve as a judge of the Fifth Judicial District in Louisiana in July 2008. He replaced retiring Judge Glenn W. Strong. He assumed office on January 1, 2009.[3]

Nomination to district court

On August 3, 2017, President Trump nominated Doughty to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, to the seat vacated by Judge Robert G. James, who assumed senior status on May 31, 2016. His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[4]
