Barish began his career in hospitality working a variety of roles at Planet Hollywood,[3] which his father, Keith Barish had co-founded,[4] and as a student at NYU Tisch School of the Arts,[5] where he promoted parties at New York nightclubs.[3]

Nightclubs[edit]

As an investor and a promoter, Barish's first major establishment was Moomba, a restaurant nightclub launched by Jeff Gossett and three partners, which opened in December 1997.[6] This was followed by Light, which Barish opened in Midtown Manhattan in 2001 with Andrew Sasson, backed by a loan from Barish’s father.[7] In 2002, Sasson and Chris Barish opened a Las Vegas version of Light, modeled on the New York club, in the Bellagio Hotel and Casino.[8][9] Light at the Bellagio was considered extremely influential among Las Vegas clubs.[10] It was among the first independent nightclubs to open in a Las Vegas hotel and among the first to bring the concept of bottle service to the city.[11] In 2013, also with Sasson, Barish opened Caramel, another New York City-style nightclub in Las Vegas.[12][13] Barish's best-known nightclub was the Marquee in New York's Chelsea neighborhood, which opened in December 2003.[14] The Marquee’s other principal investors were Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss. Marquee was a success from the start[15] and is among New York’s longest-running nightspots. In April 2004, Vanity Fair magazine included Barish, Tepperberg and Strauss among New York City’s "Kings and Queens of Clubs" — noteworthy New York club owners and “nightlife impresarios.”[16]

Restaurants[edit]

As an investor and manager, Chris Barish opened Gordon Ramsay Steak (2012) and Gordon Ramsay Pub and Grill (2013) in Las Vegas for Caesars Entertainment.[3][17]

Barish and his partners launched Black Tap Burger and Beer as a stand-alone restaurant in New York’s SoHo neighborhood in 2015.[17] As of 2024, they have licensed restaurants in the US, Europe and Asia, including Zurich, Geneva, Dubai, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore.[18]

Movies[edit]

On his own or through his production company Branding Inc. Entertainment, Barish has served as producer and executive producer of movies, including Zoey to the Max,[19] Ghost Squad,[2] Crown Vic[20] and Spin the Bottle.[21]
