Eleanor Spicer Rice is an American author, entomologist, and science communicator known for her contributions to the field of natural history writing and her work on insects and ecology.
Education
Eleanor Spicer Rice received a Bachelor's degree in Zoology and a Ph.D. in Entomology at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.[1][2]
Career
Spicer Rice's writing career began with her debut book, Dr. Eleanor's Book of Common Ants, published in 2017. Her first children's book, Unseen Jungle: The Microbes That Secretly Control Our World, was named a 2023 New York Public Library Best Book for Kids[3] and a 2023 School Library Journal Best Nonfiction Middle to High School.[4] Since 2011, Eleanor has held the position of Senior Science Writer at Verdant Word, a communications company she co-founded with lifestyle and psychology writer Robin Sutton Anders.[5]
