The meaning of word Hrishikesh is lord of senses. A great Rishi known as Raibhya once performed penance to please vishnu while leaning against the Mango tree , vishnu appeared before him and asked for boon. Railhead asked him to forever dwell here , vishnu said that he will forever remain here as Hrishikesh and the city in future will be called as Rishikesh. |
