MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist
Spam blacklists |
---|
|
The Spam-whitelist page is used in conjunction with the Mediawiki SpamBlacklist extension, and lists strings of text that override Meta's blacklist and the local spam-blacklist. Any administrator can edit the spam whitelist. Please post comments to the appropriate section below: Proposed additions (web pages to unblock), Proposed removals (sites to reblock), or Troubleshooting and problems; read the messageboxes at the top of each section for an explanation. See also MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.
Please enter your requests at the bottom of the Proposed additions to Whitelist section and not at the very bottom of the page. Sign your requests with four tildes: ~~~~
Also in your request, please include the following:
- The link that you want whitelisted in the section title, like === example.com/help/index.php === .
- The Wikipedia page on which you want to use the link
- An explanation why it would be useful to the encyclopedia article proper
- If the site you're requesting is listed at /Common requests, please include confirmation that you have read the reason why requests regarding the site are commonly denied and that you still desire to proceed with your request
Important: You must provide a full link to the specific web page you want to be whitelisted (leave out the http://
from the front; otherwise you will not be able to save your edit to this page). Requests quoting only a domain (i.e. ending in .com
or similar with nothing after the /
character) are likely to be denied. If you wish to have a site fully unblocked please visit the relevant section of MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist.
Note: Do not request links to be whitelisted where you can reasonably suspect that the material you want to link to is in violation of copyright (see WP:LINKVIO). Such requests will likely be summarily rejected.
There is no automated notification system in place for the results of requests, and you will not be notified when your request has a response. You should therefore add this page to your personal watch list or check back here every few days to see if there is any progress on it; in particular, you should check whether administrators have raised any additional queries or expressed any concerns about the request, as failure to reply to these promptly will generally result in the request being denied.
Completed requests are archived, additions and removal are logged. →snippet for logging: {{/request|1104083106#section_name}}
Note that requests from new or unregistered users are not usually considered.
Admins: Use seth's tool to search the spamlists.

Notice to everyone about our Reliable sources and External links noticeboards[edit]
If you have a source that you would like to add to the spam-whitelist, but you are uncertain that it meets Wikipedia's guideline on reliability, please ask for opinions on the Reliable sources noticeboard, to confirm that it does meet that guideline, before submitting your whitelisting request here. In your request, link to the confirming discussion on that noticeboard.
Likewise, if you have an external link that you are uncertain meets Wikipedia's guideline on external links, please get confirmation on the External links noticeboard before submitting your whitelisting request here.
If your whitelist request falls under one of these two categories, the admins will be more willing to have the source whitelisted if you can achieve consensus at one of the above noticeboards.
Proposed additions to Whitelist (web pages to unblock)[edit]
This section is for proposing that a web page be whitelisted; add new entries at the bottom of this section. Completed requests will be marked with an appropriate Indicator then archived.
PLEASE ADD NEW ENTRIES TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST (bottom of this section) PLEASE SIGN YOUR ENTRY WITH FOUR TILDES: ~~~~ |

www.faqs.org/faqs/meteorology/storms-faq/part1/
- Page: User:Chicdat/sandbox
- Reason: I am trying to add information to my sandbox that is sourced to faqs.org, which is apparently on the spam blacklist. The source I am trying to add is simply about what Cape Verde hurricanes are, and I do not intend to use it as spam or anything, simply to add information about the tracks of Cape Verde hurricanes. Please add this page to the whitelist.

Is there a reason why PV Magazine (www.pv-magazine.com) is blocked?
Specifically, I'd like to cite the following article: www.pv-magazine.com/2020/01/10/why-europe-and-the-us-failed-to-capitalize-on-thin-film-solar/ in the Siva Solar page.
Geoffrey.landis (talk) 20:38, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Geoffrey.landis: it is blacklisted because of https://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/April_2011#pv-magazine.com (and have shown interest to have this removed since then). It is still blacklisted because most material is scraped from original sources (which then make better, proper, primary sources). There is just limited material suitable. Can you evaluate this link a bit further, it seems to me a primary source (but not scraped), but that does not necessarily disqualify it? --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:02, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry; I am not very familiar with the spam blacklist. I looked at that link you sent but it is entirely unintelligible.
- The link I wanted to cite has information not available elsewhere on the internet. Geoffrey.landis (talk) 14:59, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

I would like to use this link on my sandbox draft edit wiki.alquds.edu/?query=User:Mtgravesande/Mining_in_Guyana?venotify=created&action=edit. I think this specific site should be whitelisted because this has important information about the environmental impacts of bauxite mining in Guyana from two authors from the University of Guyana. Articles about Guyana have limited sources online and so this specific article is important. Thanks. Mtgravesande (talk) 08:11, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Mtgravesande: this is a 'particularly bad' predatory journal, see https://wiki.alquds.edu/?query=MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/February_2019#Predatory_journals. A lack of sources does not mean that we then have to use this type of sources. Any reason why you believe this is however passing our bars? --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:50, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for getting back to me! I understand that this journal is predatory and so I was able to find another source that was reliable and contained the information I needed for my sandbox draft. Mtgravesande (talk) 22:56, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

This website's reliability has never been questioned on Wikipedia. But it was added to blacklist due to spamming (MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/December 2021#FilmCompanion). I need this particular reference in order to add it to Nijeder Mawte Nijeder Gaan reference #6, as it explains the features of the music video section. It was previously a part of the article, see Special:Permalink/1102890332, but I had to remove it for IABot to run on the article. —CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {C•X}) 13:33, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Proposed removals from Whitelist (web pages or link patterns to re-block)[edit]
This section is for discussing rules on the whitelist that need removal from the whitelist. |
Troubleshooting and problems[edit]
![]() | This section is for technical problems with existing rules on the whitelist. Old entries are archived |
an attempt to revert an edit was blocked for a reason that did NOT apply[edit]
My attempt to revert an unsupported edit was blocked, alleging, "Your edit was not saved because it contains a new external link to a site registered on Wikipedia's blacklist or Wikimedia's global blacklist."
That flatly is NOT TRUE with:
en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Haiti&diff=next&oldid=1101638144
This is the THIRD time user:BGetmefood made this same edit. This change claims that Haiti and other Caribbean islands were settled by Polynesians. The reference cited does not say that, and the claim is contracted by other references discussed in the article. After my initial reversion was reverted, I posted a comment to Talk:Haiti#Haiti and Polynesia? requesting @BGetmefood:. I received no reply from BGetmefood. Instead, BGetmefood posted the same thing a third time.
Now, I'm blocked from reverting a reposting of a questionable addition by BGetmefood, without first replying to my post on Talk:Haiti#Haiti and Polynesia? The message blocking my reversion says that my edit "contains a new external link to a site registered on Wikipedia's blacklist or Wikimedia's global blacklist." That's not true: I did NOT ADD anything, least of all "a new external link". DavidMCEddy (talk) 16:38, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- @DavidMCEddy yes, in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=134655357 you added everyculture.com. Maybe you un-broke something else which turned this in a working link? Dirk Beetstra T C 04:42, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
