Kawkhali (Bengali: কাউখালী) is an Upazila of Rangamati District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh.[1]

As of the 2011 Bangladesh census, Kawkhali upazila had 12,865 households and a population of 59,578. 14,506 (24.35%) were under 10 years of age. Kawkhali had an average literacy rate of 44.2%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 952 females per 1000 males. 10330 (17.34%) of the population lived in urban areas.[2] The ethnic population was 34,954 (58.67%), of which Marma were 17,450, Chakma 16,617, and 681 Tanchangya.[3]

Administration[edit]

Kawkhali Upazila is divided into four union parishads: Betbunia, Fatikchhari, Ghagra, and Kalampati. The union parishads are subdivided into 11 mauzas and 149 villages.[4]
