Alexander I opens the Diet of Porvoo in the Lutheran Cathedral, March 29, 1809, adopting the role of a law-bound monach of the Swedish kind, in the Grand Duchy of Finland, and promising to maintain the Lutheran religion, the Swedish laws, and estate privileges of his subjects.
