Nem sokkal Hollandiából való hazatérte után keletkezet e kép. Szolnokról, a mûvészteleprõl többször is felrándult Besztercebányára, és az 1906-ban ott készült festményen összesítette addigi mûvészeti tapasztalatait. Azt az irányt látjuk megvalósulni itt, amit a késõbbiekben Perlmutter már nem tudott kifejteni, tovább folytatni. A kissé felülnézetbõl megfestett, hosszúkás alakú tér a gazdag felvidéki bányaváros napfényben ragyogó békés, mégis mozgalmas, tarka piacát vetíti elénk. Az érdekes térkivágáson belül rendkívül finoman oldotta meg a távoli háttér kulisszaszerû házainak, templomának és vele átlósan, a kép bal alsó sarkában álló sátrak színességének az ellentétét. Valóban igazi impresszionista kép. Ezt megelõzõ, valamint késõbbi mûveivel szemben, e festményen a fény felbontja a színeket, fokozza intenzitásukat, aminek következtében a színek anyagszerûtlenné válnak. A kép változata Besztercei templomtér címen ismert. A kortárs magyar képzõmûvészetben hasonló impresszionista képet nem találunk; viszont érdekes összevetést kínál Josef Futkais: Besztercebánya fõtere heti vásárkor c. 1885-ben készült fotója.

Perlmutter painted his pcture soon after his return from the Netherlands. He often left the Szolnok school for Besztercebánya. He summed up his artistic experience in the picture from 1906 which shows which path Perlmutter decided to follow but failed to realize. The somewhat longish market in a rich mining town is depicted from overlook. Houses, a church and stalls in the left-hand corner of the picture provide the setting in the distance. This is a real impressionist picture. Unlike his previous and later pictures, light breaks colours and makes them more intensive, as a result they lose their materiality. A version of the picture is known as "Church Square in Beszterce". There is no such picture in Hungarian contemporary art, but it is interesting to compare the picture with "Market in Besztercebánya at the Weekly Market", a picture by Josef Gutkais (1885).
