English: Cutaway view of the return connecting rod (ie "back-acting") engine of HMS Agincourt. To the right is a cutaway view of the engine cylinder from which extends a long piston rod offset from the cylinder centre. The piston attaches to a crosshead on the other (left) side of the engine, from which the connecting rod returns to rotate the centrally located crankshaft. |
