Marika Schalla née (Bogi) is an Indigenous Canadian author and award-winning educator. She is best known for her book Stella Welcome to Your Doodem[1]. Marika Schalla is a Co-Chair for Full Circle for Indigenous Education of Manitoba, which is a provincial Non-Profit Organization dedicated to enriching the learning of Indigenous ways of knowing and being for community members in Manitoba. Education[edit]
Marika Schalla graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and again in 2019 with a Bachelor of Education both from the University of Winnipeg. In 2023, Marika Schalla went on to complete a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Education in Indigenous Knowledges from the University of Winnipeg.
Career[edit]
Marika Schalla is an award-winning educator. In the fall of 2022, she won the Innovative Practice award at Indspire's Guiding the Journey Awards. In 2023, she was honoured as Indigenous Educator of the Month by the Government of Manitoba. Marika has a successful career as a teacher and curriculum developer. Marika is an educator and was one of the curriculum developers for the Your Voice is Power program.
Marika is the author of the book Stella Welcome to Your Doodem. Stella Welcome to Your Doodem is a captivating tale about a young mixed Indigenous (Red River Metis and Anishinaabe) girl who goes out searching for her clan family after her Naming Ceremony. The story introduces and explores meaning behind seven different animals that represent Ojibwe clans.
