Samhällsnytt ("Society News") or Samnytt[1] is a Swedish right-wing populist[2][3] online news website founded in 2017, and edited by Mats Dagerlind, with close ties to the Sweden Democrats and its former parliamentarian Kent Ekeroth.[4][5]

History and actvities[edit]

The site and its predecessors is said to have made an impact due to their "relentless reporting on immigrant crime".[1] Samhällsnytt is the successor to the news website Avpixlat ("De-pixelated"),[1][4][5] also closely linked to Ekeroth.[6][7] Avpixlat was labeled a racist hate-site, xenophobic and right-wing extremist by Swedish and international media,[8][9] while describing itself as "an independent Sweden-friendly website for news and opinions".[10] The site leaned close to the counter-jihad movement and supported Israel.[11] Avpixlat was itself the successor to the news site Politiskt Inkorrekt ("Politically Incorrect"),[1][12] founded in 2008,[13] which also had close ties to Ekeroth[14] and the counter-jihad movement.[15]

In October 2021, the editor of the website Mats Dagerlind was sentenced to 40 daily fines, 30,000 kr in damages and 115,000 kr in legal fees for libel against a journalist at Dagens Nyheter from Syria after having described him as a "suspected jihadist" with ties to the al-Nusra Front and al-Qaeda.[16][17] In February 2024 Dagerlind was again convicted, and sentenced to one month in prison and 20,000 kr in damages for libel against a person employed at a former organisation working against online hate after having described him as a "repulsive human being".[18][19]
